Why upgrade to a paid subscription?

Paid subscribers will have access to any of the interviews that I, John Ward, conduct. These interviews will be with people who capture my interest or who strike me as doing something really innovative within the Substack ecosystem.

The paid subscriptions also offer a way to express support for this periodical and provide gas money for my friend as well as help cover his travel expenses.

Please consider an annual subscription as we have deliberately priced them in a way that offers more value to our readers… and because we don’t want you canceling after a month.

Bundle WrittenWard with your Sketchy Scoops Subscription

At this level, you’ll receive both free and paid content not only from Sketchy Scoops, but also from my WrittenWard Substack. The WrittenWard Substack is focused on analyzing Substack and the newsletter ecosystem. It’s also my attempt to document my efforts to build a paying audience for my work.

History of Sketchy Scoops

Recently, a reporter friend of mine, Sam “Scoop” Sterling, was a victim of corporate downsizing. Accounts of exactly why he was downsized differ, but “Scoop” is convinced that he revealed more than the power elite wanted to have made known.

Being fired was a transformational experience for him. As he looks back over his career he can see how he was used as a puppet by those in control to disseminate the ‘accepted narratives’ and relay the messages they wanted to have made known. More than that though, he has become convinced that there is a vast network devoted to hiding the ‘truth’ from the everyday citizen. More than anything else, he wanted to start this newsletter to reveal that truth to his fellow man.

Having become disillusioned with the corporate world, he decided to go solo. Now, he travels from town to town in a beat-up, and slightly rusted-out 1987 Ford Econoline van. He’s out there even now meeting new people and digging up the stories that we will publish tomorrow. If you’re fortunate enough to meet him, maybe you will show up in the pages of Sketchy Scoops.
